Where to put filter wool in multi bay

Postby Jmoore » Wed Feb 22, 2012 8:04 pm

I'm expecting some sheets of 8mm filter wool in the post tomorrow and I would like to know in which bay I should put it to remove fines.

Current setup is 3 bay filter no vortex, first bay brushes, second jap mat cartridge and third aerated K1.

Where would you guys put it?

On my kings lynn koi filter i sometimes used filter foams or a piece of jap mat across the exit as the water leaves the second bay. You have to be careful though as when the wool or foam starts to block the water level in the filter starts to back up. In an ideal world you would have the wool in the last chamber before returning to the pond so that the wool polishes the water but on this filter you cannot do this because of the aereated k1. Sometimes i wondered if the last chamber should of been left static k1 as this would be even better but it would be harder to clean and it does state on kings lynn koi website that you needed an airpump to fluidize the k1 in the last chamber.

Thanks Dave,

I think I will just play around with the placement of the wool and see what works best.

I would place it on top of the Jap Matt.
