I would certainly NOT put anything like that at the inlet, it would would clog so fast and become a chore. If you really must use it put it around the outlet. Personally I would NOT use filter pads etc. easypods can save effort, why make more work ? you should not need to use pads, if you are having fines you are pulling too fast a flow through your pod I only use an eco 5000 on mine.
