I have used a filter booster (the one you leave in the airing cupboard for 24 hours) 2 weeks ago.

HI STEVE, DO YOU HAVE YOUR AIR PUMPS RUNNING AT THE MOMENT? IT COULD BE LACK OF OXYGEN.

Stevie P,
Other more knowledgeable members on the forum will be able to give technical advise, but with water temperatures rising, your koi could well be jumping for the fun of it -literally full of the joys of spring. I had a beautiful showa jump out the pond this time last year. Found him dead on the lawn one morning. The night before the dog kept wanting to go outside, after the third time of being let out and then tapping the door to come back in straight away we thought he was playing up so I told him off. After discovering the showa the following morning I’m sure that Max was trying to tell us about the fish.
If you’ve got low top walls to your pond I would recommend a net over it to stop them jumping out or from having a nasty bang.

Stevie,
Could be parastical, the only way to tell is to do a scrap and look under the microscope, a good local koi dealer should be able to do this for you. I’m sure others will advise that it is best to know what you are dealing with before you start adding any treaments.
Personally I think your koi are jumping for the fun of it, you say that they are jumping late /mid afternoon which is the time (if the pond is in direct sun) that the spring sunshine will obviously be at its strongest. They could also be jumping for fly’s which will hover over the water especially now it normal spring weather.

Hi Stevie,
I dont think it would hurt to get a scrape done just to rule out a parasite problem – then at least you’ll know if theres anything to worry about. But I think Barry might be right as well to say koi jump just for the fun of it – I remember reading this too – koi leaping with ‘joire de vivre’ (love of life I think that is!)
Mine was fit and healthy as far as I could tell when he took a leap the other year and sometimes when we’ve been in the garden on a warm day, we’ve heard a splash and caught a glimpse of colour – and its been a fish jumping (oxygen levels may be lower then but pond is well aerated etc..)
SO I personally think both answers may be right.[:-]
Are they spawning at all?????

if jumping more than useal and the water is ok (make sure the test kit is in date) than get a scrape done.
