Best filter set up.
Hi,
I am looking to build something like thishttp://www.koicarp.org.uk/bertha.jpgat the end of the month as as my all in one filter doesnt seem to cope very well, as I would like to up the feeding a bit more and also get a bigger pump next year etc..
What do you think would be the best set up in a filter that has 3 or 4 chambers??
Brushes – matting – matting / grog/k1 – ?
Thanks!

Re: Best filter set up.
Hi Chris,
Buget is the key issue with Koi set up (as I think you will already know).
But after saying that, you don’t need to spend thousands to get a good working system.
There is no wrong or right answer to which media to use in filters, as all the people on this forum will have complete diffrent ideas to what works for them.
It’s all about what it going to work in your setup.
For example, in my old pond, I used grog, flowcor & jap mat, and could never get the ammonia down. But on my new pond, I have used 2 bead filters, and I love them, and they work very well.
But mention bead filters to certain people on here, and they say don’t waste you money, you should buy a nexus.
So I think personal preference plays a big part in choosing filter / pumps / uv’s etc etc.
My only other advise is to visit a few of your local koi dealers (not garden centres), and see what they use (not what they sell), to keep their holding ponds.
This gave me some interesting thoughts, as I found a couple using differrent method’s to what they actually sold to the public?
Anyway, hope this helps, and put some pictures of your build on forum….
Keep us upto date with the progress of the pond / filters.
Cheers
Lee

If you are seriously considering buying the filter in the pic, you’d be better off making your own I reckon, there are loads of home made filter examples built by members of this forum.

I didn’t say I was going to buy one. I said I was going to make one and what would be the best set up in each compartment….
