General discussion about all things Koi

Re: Koi Quest

I agree about all that has been said here, and I also have his book and excellent it is, although I have read so many of his articles online to get a good grounding in Koi keeping before starting to keep koi and building my pond. I do not think he should have put the full articles on his web site. What he should do is put a small taster of a topic and direct people to purchase his book for full diagnosis and treatments. Also I think that full address details etc to join his site, would possible deter those not using the site correctly.

I think the part of the site that is informative is where other users can post pictures and problems for assistance, that Duncan does respond to – that shows a huge variety of problems that we all encounter at various times.

Re: Koi Quest

it’s a great shame such an informative site regards to the health of koi, i have met Duncan on a few occasions and learnt more in one afternoon spending time and watching Duncan do his stuff and listening to his advise ect, and his passion for the hobby is second to none thats why i feel he gives so much away in his writings on koi quest and not to make money out of it.

Re: Koi Quest

I have been friends with Duncan for many years and have learnt so much from him, doing his course and having his book not to mention many phone calls discussing Koi and koi related topics.I fully understand what he has done and why,and personally feel it is a very sad day for the hobby.

Re: Koi Quest

If tw4ts wouldn’t copy the text from his site this would never have happened i really feel for the new koi keepers in the world who will never learn from his knowledge and from his website, Such a huge loss to the koi keepers who need to learn,
Ive seen many site’s that have loads of text copied from his site along with many forums, If they all knew that it had led to the demise of his site would duncan change his mind ? I would like to think so.
Come on duncan dont let the tw4ts win;)

Re: Koi Quest

It is indeed very sad when someones work gets freely taken . I hope people will now buy the book as its invaluable to the hobby .
They have basically pooped on themselves as the site was brilliant with plenty of free info.

Re: Koi Quest

‘Theft’ – which is what copyright abuse is – is a subject very close to my heart as a content producer.

Most of the time people are oblivious to what they are doing when they take a picture or text from somewhere and re-post it. A simple word in the ear will resolve things.

Others seem to think anything on the Internet is fair game for copying.

It’s a tiring and endless battle trying to control where content is reproduced and appears, fully understand Duncan’s feelings.

Re: Koi Quest

I can fully understand Duncan.

I had a long chat with him 2 weeks ago and I didn’t really understand how down he was about this until then.

I don’t think The site will come back as it was. I think the time and dedication he gave to the koi world was second to none but this now allows him the time to fight the copyright infringement and progress himself in koi health.

For me, the benefit he has givern to me in his advice and help I could never repay.

Maybe we might like to start a contribution to help him help us in copyright and bring back one of the best advisors in koi health.

I my self would have no problem in the first contribution.
