Re: Roto Concept Gravity Shower

thanks for the replies…..;)

i actually saw one of these filters set up and running at the weekend….. but it had only been running for about 4 days…..

just wondering how effective it is in comparison to the nexus 210….

anyone?????

Re: Roto Concept Gravity Shower

hi, as the crystal bio is excellent in my shower filter and seems alot quicker to mature,it also depletes nitrate, its cheaper as you dont have to buy more media or lid and you dont need extra air. 15 secs to clean. cant wait to buy a couple.

if dave at coastal can take out a 210 and replace with the rotto says alot in my book ;)

Re: Roto Concept Gravity Shower

I don’t think you’d be disappointed. One of these will easily filter 5000 gallons highly stocked. I have seen one of these filtering a dealers tank with 300 6-8″ fish in. They haven’t had a reading! As for it being too big for you, I don’t think you can over filter. I am currently planning my pond which will be 9-10000 gl. I will run two of these as the main filtration. I really am that impressed.

Re: Roto Concept Gravity Shower

hi, i wouldn’t always take manufactured claims.i think they all over estimate there claims.
take the nexus 300.rated for a 7500 gallon pond, fine if you have 2 fish in it.
this size pond could hold a lot of big fish.but there bio side only has 100 ltrs of k1.
they claim this can cope with 225 grams of food a day. a pond of 7500 gallons with a lot of fish in it,are going to need more than 225 grams of food.through experience i don’t reckon 100ltrs of k1 can cope with 225 grams of food a day,
i think you should take at least 30% off manufacturers claims.
having said all this the roto concept shower looks a good add on.

hi sam, the max bio for 30-310 is 300ltrs, they supply it with 100 ltrs ;)

ok,the specifications on there site,state suitable for 7500 gallon pond,100ltrs k1.
the price about £1300.00.so you have to buy another 200ltrs of k1,for a pond of that size.
a bit misleading i think.

Re: Roto Concept Gravity Shower

No sam, your reading it all wrong.

A 7500gal pond has nothing to do with the amount of bio media is required, the fish size and food ratio does.

A 300 comes with 45litres static, according to ea and pod owners this is OK for around 180 grams of food per day. Then theirs 100ltrs in the bio, so add 500 grams there and you can feed 680grams per day easily. I have around this in a 200 so I know it’s capable alright with 26 sansai lol. Then you can’t work this out but factor in the pond walls, pipework etc where biofilm will be and you could push it a little BEFORE spending out on more k1.

Anyway back to the original question, I think this filter is superb as far as no head losses like a sieve, reoxygenates for free, and a massize bio capacity including nitrates. The only thing that would stop me buying 1 without real world testaments is this vortex as mechanical only. Do the fines settle at the max flow rate????????? I don’t think they will, so do they clog up the media for bugs to eat or do they turn sour??? So people then may add a bead on just like a nexus or dangle brushes around the inlets which are a pain to hose down, but I don’t know so cannot say it won’t work. Something you need to be told or seen yourself in an outside pond after a good summer with normal stocking rates, BW treatments etc. If someone who owns 1 can give it this testament, I might just sell the nexus lol.
